The
Maids of Honour
The
Maids of Honour was painted by Diego Velázquez in 1656. It is an oil
canvas painting and it shows a large room in the Royal Alcazar of
Madrid and presents several figures of the Royal family a part of
other person. Velázquez includes in the scenery a portrays of
himself working at a large canvas. This is what caught my attention.
This
type of work is typical of portrait, an art movement which started in
Egypt in the fifth century. The portrait is
a painting,
photograph,
sculpture,
or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and
its expression is predominant.
The
Maids of Honour was first exhibited in 1819 because it was donated to
the Prado Museum of Madrid, where it is now kept. If anyone wants to
buy it now, is valued by 60.000 royals.
